Carmarthenshire Aerial Photography
Owing to the limited availablity and prohibitive cost of commercial aerial
survey photography, a medium term programme of low level oblique aerial photography survey
work is in progress. Aimed initially at recording the impact of a major road
construction scheme on the Upper Tidal Reaches of the Towy at Carmarthen, much of
the main river up to Llandovery has now been photographed together with selected sites
elsewhere.
Three sorties have been flown using Cessna 150 and 172 aircraft, flying at
around 1000 feet above ground level (Up to 3000 feet above sea level).
1. July 2nd 1998: The Towy upper estuary and road construction works at
Carmarthen A40 Eastern Bypass: including re-alignment of the river channel.
Slides: Fuji 400 ASA.
Prints: Kodak Royal Gold 400 ASA
Camera: Minolta 500 si Super. Lens: Minolta 28 - 80 mm and 80 - 300 mm.
Weather: Fair hazy
2. September 29th 1998: Repeat (1) with flight extended from middle
estuary and detailed coverage along the Towy up to Llandovery, and the Cothi up to
Pont-ar-gothi.
Equipment and films as (1).
Weather: Cloudy very hazy
3. June 9th 1999: Repeat (1) with selected larger scale areas up the Towy
to Llandeilo; Llangadog to Llanwrda;Llynyfan lake ; lower Bran and Llyn
Brianne reservoir.
Slides: Fuji 100ASA (bypass area only)
Prints: Kodak Royal Gold and Fuji 400 ASA
Camera: Minolta 500 si Super. Lens Minolta 28 - 80mm. and Sigma 28 - 200mm AS.
Weather: Fine and very clear.
