Note also the EA Press Release dated 12th March 2009, announcing a visit by Norwegian fishery managers to  Kielder Hatchery stating,

“……The hatchery rears salmon from eggs in order to restock rivers such as the Tyne, Yorkshire Esk and Trent. It has been important in supporting the recovery of the River Tyne, the best salmon river in England and Wales……. Ecology Officer Niall Cook said “We aim to share our good practice in salmon management and monitoring with our guests, and explain how we have helped make the Tyne the best salmon river in England and Wales……..”
