Building your own wooden house

wood house

More and more real estate auto-builders are taking on the challenge of building a wooden home, whether as a principal residence or as a second home.

The construction of a house made entirely of wood requires prior technical knowledge as well as good budgeting.
Its technical nature makes it possible to build your house yourself but it is however highly advisable to enlist the help of craftsmen and experts during certain primordial phases.
Building your own wooden house: how much does it cost?
It should be known that the wooden construction is the type of self-construction which presents the most interests in terms of savings realized.

The reason is that the price of raw wood is experiencing a constant deflation in the commodities market. It is thus easy to get enough wood to build the entire house.

Part of your budget will be reserved for the purchase of raw wood. Softwood with a diameter of 30 cm is thus acquired on average around 60 to 80 dollars per cubic meter.

Depending on the quality of the wood and the complexity of the house plans, a range of 60 to 100 m³ of softwood is needed. This amounts to an average of only 4000 to 7000 dollars of budget for the purchase of wood.

Some parts of the structural work, including the foundations, as well as the second work (health, electricity …), will require an additional budget for the purchase of other materials, estimated at some 300 dollars per square meter (m²).  However, other costs such as apprenticeship fees or plan fees should not be overlooked.

The self-construction of his wooden house: why delegate certain achievements?
The self-construction of a wooden house requires some know-how that can be acquired through learning and using specific building plans. But this learning requires time, which could delay your construction.

The simplest is to enlist the help of a craftsman. This one will be able to support you technically throughout the building site, without however completely replacing you.

You will thus remain master of your construction. In this way, you can delegate the tasks relating to the installation of wooden walls, framing, installation of partitions, doors, and windows … You can reserve the privilege of completing the finishing work, such as laying parquet, decorations, furnishing …

Also, know that the craftsman has the opportunity to relocate to his site building the frame of the house and transport it to your site thereafter for final assembly.

Finally, it should be noted that the use of a craftsman grants the benefit of the ten-year guarantee to the real estate work under construction.
