Environment Agency Wales seizes fish in Glyn Neath area
A search on a house in the Glyn Neath area has resulted in the seizure of a number of sea trout and salmon. A number of spear guns, nets and a snare were also seized by Environment Agency Wales.
Officers from the Agency’s environmental crime team executed a search warrant at the house on Thursday (11th November). The fish, believed to be illegally obtained, were seized under the 1986 Salmon Act.
And by using scientific techniques the Agency says the fish can be genetically tested to establish which river system they originated from.
A forty year old man is being investigated for alleged fisheries offences.
Lyn Richards, Environmental Crime Team Leader for Environment Agency Wales said: “We will not hesitate to take action against anyone involved in illegal fishing activities. Our officers on the ground carry out routine patrols and the reports we get from the public and other anglers are an integral part of our intelligence network.
“If anyone sees any illegal fishing or something suspicious they should call our hotline on 0800 80 70 60. All information is used in our fight against illegal fishing and poaching.”
